Heidi Stirm a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher at Melba High School, was recognized for The Integration of Core Academics Award, at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) 2017 National Leadership Conference. Held July 2-6 in Nashville TN, the meeting drew more than 7,5000 FCCLA members.
“We are proud to honor Heidi Stirm as the recipient of the ICA Award. Adviser recognition plays an important role in highlighting the accomplishments and efforts of FCCLA’s educator population,” says Leah Buller, FCCLA Director of Membership.
This national award recognizes one current FCCLA chapter adviser who integrates core academics subjects; math, science, social studies and English, into Family and Consumer Science and/or FCCLA activities and projects.
Without capable adult leaders, students could not take advantage of the many opportunities offered through FCCLA. Being an effective adviser takes special skills and a tremendous commitment of time no energy. Exceptional advisers motivate their chapters to take advantage of opportunities beyond the local level, use a wide variety of resources available to them, and encourage student involvement.
FCCLA: The Ultimate Leadership Experience is unique among youth organizations because it’s programs are planned and run by members, and it is the only career and technical in-school student organization with a central focus on careers that support families. Participation in national FCCLA programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.
